How to choose colors (Easy 3-steps)
I suck at
choosing colors so I have to have a very simple step by step process that I can
follow in each project otherwise I’ll completely get lost.
So
on this article, I’ll show you the simple 3-step process I use on every design
(both web and graphics design). So let’s get into it.

Step 1 of choosing colors
Choosing a dominant color
Now, a lot of your clients might
come to you and they already have a kind of a brand color. Well that’s great,
because you have step 1 figured out already. And if you don’t have that step
figured out, you need to choose the right dominant color for you client and
that basically means that you need to understand what the meaning of every
color is. Right, and also that the color convey the right message to the
customer.
Now, I will share below an image of a table where you can find the meaning of every color out there.
Step 2 of choosing colors
Add two more colors
You can have a pallet of three
color. Why three colors? Don’t worry we would get to that and we’re going to
talk about how you will apply those three colors to your design. And the next
step is, what other two colors are going to work well with the dominant color?
Now, again, because I suck at this am I always try to find tools that’s going
to help me kind of brainstorm the ideas.
The tool am going to share with you
right now is called mycolor.space.
Basically, you just enter a color
like for instance, the color you choose as the dominant color then we can
generate the matching colors. Basically, it creates a lot of pallets that are
just basically working with our chosen
dominant color. This tool basically serves as an inspiration for what colors
can work together for us.
By the way, if you find this
article helpful you can support by sharing and we would be doing more of this.
Anyways, back to the pallets. The things
that people don’t actually think about when they think about colors is that
black and white are actually colors so people think about all the other colors
that they think that they have to be creative with. But actually black and
white are solid colors that you use. They also have their own meanings so you
need to take that into consideration when choosing colors for your designs.
Step 3 of choosing colors
How are you going to apply the
chosen colors in your design
The general rule that we talk
about which is basically borrowed from interior designs, which is the 60/30/10
rule. That’s pretty easy to apply. You understand that the 60% is probably
going to be your background and then the 30% is going to be kind of main
element sometimes those are texts or something like that then the 10% its whats
called the accent just to give a little spark of color or something interesting
to grab attention. Sometimes you use that for buttons, scroll to actions and
all of these kind of things.
So here's what I want you to take
away with this. When you have three colors, you can play around with them. It
doesn’t mean that they have to keep playing the same roles over and over again.
Switch things up! You have more creative
ways of mixing the colors up using the 60/30/10 rule and that gives you
a lot of versatility in your design.
This is basically the process that
I worked through and ithat really simplified my life.

we applied this steps into our own design, how we used this with texts, with
images, etc feel free to contact us.
