The Blues Run Riot Against Struggling Norwich
West London outfit Chelsea maintained their grip at the top of the Premier League standings, following a comprehensive 7-0 thrashing of basement boys and relegation-threatened candidates Norwich City in a Matchday Nine encounter at Stamford Bridge on Saturday’s early kick-off.
The Blues who were missing the strike pair of RomeluLukaku and Timo Werner after they suffered injuries against Swedish side Malmo in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, did not allow that to affect them as they posted a five-star performance which resulted in their biggest victory this season and the widest winning margin since current manager Thomas Tuchel took charge in January.
England midfielder Mason Mount was one of the game’s standout players as he scored a brilliant hat-trick, while there were goals too for right-back Reece James, winger Callum Hudson-Odoi and left-back Ben Chilwell. But it was German international Kai Havertz who was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Norwich City defender Ben Gibson was sent off for two yellow cards to cap off a miserable outing for the away side, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table and without a win to their names this season
Mason Mount’s opener was his first goal for the Blues this campaign, and a first since their Champions League semi-final second leg win against Real Madrid in May. Callum Hudson-Odoi’s effort was also his first of the season, while Ben Chilwell scored for the fourth successive game (for club and country).
Coach Thomas Tuchel was once again able to flex his tactical nous, as he played Kai Havertz as a false nine with Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi on either side of the attack which ensured they formed a mobile front three that constantly troubled the visitors defence.
